Lowline and Dexter Cattle

Lowline cattle will always hold a special place at our farm. We have had lowline cattle pretty much since the beginning of our “farm change”.

Lowline cattle were developed as part of a CSIRO program looking into the merits of smaller size/ framed  Angus cattle.  Lowline are genetically small sized angus cattle and are approximately two thrids of the size of regular angus and actually reflect the traditional size of Angus cattle.  Developed from Angus cattle and representing what would have been the “original” sized angus imported into Australia, Lowline are truely a beef breed with desirable carcase characteristics and not just pets. Given the efficient feed conversion ratios, early maturing and higher stocking densities permitted by running lowlines, they seemed a logical choice. A further benefit is that lowlines are naturally polled – meaning no horns or no dehorning calves
