About Us

Established in 2001 with the purchase of “Jeroka Downs”, 80 acres of land in Kyneton, Victoria, this marked the start of our “tree change” from Melbourne’s inner suburbs to the beautiful Macedon Ranges. Now with all this land and pasture the task at hand was to find some animals….

In the first years, we run various angus and hereford steers and heifers. As with most things, its much more fun to breed than fatten steers, heifers in calf were purchased. After a Spring highlighted by pulling calves, dead calves and paralysed cows, we thought there had to be an easier option!.

Enter the Lowline Cattle
After the initial purchase of several commercial lowline cows and heifers from a nearby breeder, it soon became clear the merits of this breed to novice or hobby farmers, such as ourselves. Their smaller size and naturally docile temperament meant that animals were less intimidating and posed less of a risk of injury.

Developed from Angus cattle and representing what would have been the “original” sized angus imported into Australia, Lowline are truely a beef breed with desirable carcase characteristics and not just pets. Given the efficient feed conversion ratios, early maturing and higher stocking densities permitted by running lowlines, they seemed a logical choice. A further benefit is that lowlines are naturally polled – meaning no horns or no dehorning calves!. Today we run a stud herd, pure commercial herd (pure bred but unregistered) and a composite herd of larger beef framed cows joined to a lowline bull.

To compliment the cattle herd, we also run pure bred Suffolk sheep (The black faced sheep) and some first cross ewes joined to terminal Suffolk sires. To protect and serve the sheep, naturally we have a few alpacas thrown in for good measure.

In 2009 the complete tree change was done with the sale of our Melbourne home of over 30 years to purchase “Dresden Park” in New Gisborne. To keep things interesting, the Gisborne property is home to “Tyrone Park” pony stud where we breed Shetland, miniature pony and miniature horses. Most horses are registered with one or more breed societies. Dilute colours including palomino, cremello, and buckskins are our speciality and at various times there are ponies suitable for children as well as show and stud stock for sale. Please see the pony page for further information.

So stay tuned, it is hoped in the near future we will be offering farm stay at “Weeroona” in Clarkefield, once the renovations are complete.
